Wenger: Wilshere best in deeper role

Arsene Wenger has said that Jack Wilshere’s best position is as a deep-lying midfielder.

Jack Wilshere is expected to miss Wednesday match at Dortmund.
Jack Wilshere has been compared to Arsenal greats Liam Brady and Dennis Bergkamp.

Wilshere, 21, has been played in a variety of roles as Wenger attempts to fit him in alongside Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta in the Gunners’ overcrowded midfield.

The debate about whether he is strongest as an attacking No. 10 or in a role further back where he can dictate the play continues, but in a Twitter Takeover with Arsenal’s official Twitter account, Wenger has again outlined where he sees Wilshere’s future.

"His best position is as a deep-lying midfielder, where he can be a distributor," he said. "He has a good burst and vision"

Wilshere returned to the Arsenal side for the 1-0 Premier League defeat against Manchester United on Sunday as a 61st minute substitute for Mathieu Flamini.

The England international picked up an injury during the 2-0 win against Liverpool the previous weekend, leading to Wenger admitting that Wilshere's injury problems are an ongoing concern for the club.
