Joe Hart still City No. 1 - Rodwell

Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell has indicated that he and his teammates still regard Joe Hart as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Joe Hart is battling Costel Pantilimon for Manchester City's No. 1 jersey.

Mooney: Injuries taking toll

Hart has made a series of costly mistakes this season, including one to gift Chelsea victory at Stamford Bridge last weekend, and manager Manuel Pellegrini is yet to say who will be in goal for City when they face Norwich on Saturday.

But while Hart’s usual deputy Costel Pantilimon played well in Wednesday’s Capital One Cup victory at Newcastle, midfielder Rodwell believes there has not been a change in the pecking order.

Rodwell told British daily newspapers: "Joe is No. 1 and Costel is good competition for him. We all know Joe is No. 1 but Costel put on a good performance against Newcastle."

Pantilimon also played in all of City’s domestic Cup games last season until the FA Cup final, when he was dropped and Hart was selected.

And Rodwell added: "He's an international keeper but, having Joe in front of you would be difficult for a lot of keepers. He digs away, puts on a good performance and the Capital One Cup is good for him this season.

"He made two saves which kept us level -- if they had gone in, the tie could have gone either way. He's a good lad who trains well every day. He and Richard Wright [the third choice] are both good."
