Stuttgart keen on Serge Gnabry return

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger praised West Brom in the wake of his side's 1-1 draw with them in the Premier League

Stuttgart have not given up hope of convincing Arsenal youngster Serge Gnabry to return to Swabonia, according to reports in the German media.

Gnabry, 18, left Stuttgart for Arsenal in 2011, having played one season in Stuttgart’s youth academy. The German, one of five in the Gunners’ first-team squad, scored his first Premier League goal in Arsenal’s recent 2-1 victory against Swansea.

But Stuttgart sporting director Jochen Schneider has told Bild that they were keen to re-sign the midfielder during the summer.

“It’s true, he had the chance to return in the summer,” he said. “But he opted to fight for his chance at Arsenal and deserves every respect for this decision.”

Despite Gnabry’s decision, Schneider and Stuttgart have not given up all hope of luring the Germany under-19 international back to his hometown, adding that he still is in contact with Gnabry’s family.

“After his goal in Swansea I sent his father a text to congratulate him,” Schneider said. “We will continue to monitor his progress. But if he continues to go down the path he is currently going and becomes a starter for Arsenal, it will get difficult.”
