Can Spurs beat bogey team Liverpool?

50-50 Challenge

Kompany happy with Rooney return

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has insisted he is delighted that Wayne Rooney has returned to form and fitness in time for Sunday’s derby.

Mooney: European failure forgotten

The Manchester United forward, who had been sidelined by a gashed forehead, has scored three goals in his last two games, including his 200th for the club during the Champions League win against Bayer Leverkusen.

And Kompany, who has made his own comeback after a groin injury kept him out for four weeks, is adamant he prefers to face United’s finest forwards when they are firing.

"It's brilliant he's doing so well again," he told PA Sport. "You want to play against top players at their best. That's personally how I feel about it.

"I always want to play against players when they are at their best. I'm really happy for Wayne that he's on top form.

"This is the great thing about the Premier League, you play against top strikers all the time. But there are many players to watch out for in both teams."

The Belgian has scored the winning goal in one previous derby, in April 2012, and has been sent off in another, three months earlier, and believes anything could happen at the Etihad Stadium.

He added: "It's a different team, it's a different season and I would say there has never been anything too predictable in the derby.

"Nobody predicted we would win 6-1 at Old Trafford [in October 2011], that they would beat us at the Etihad [in December 2012] and that we would win at Old Trafford [in April 2013].

"The derby is always a game you look forward to. And I don't think it's just the people in Manchester, but all over the world who look forward to enjoying it. It's a game that attracts a lot of attention.

"I never take it for granted and I feel blessed that I am able to participate in those games. You do your best to make sure you play well in these games."
