Bale looks certain to end months of speculation by sealing a world record breaking transfer to Real Madrid, with Republic of Ireland skipper Keane insisting the 24-year-old is not leaving Spurs on bad terms.

"Tottenham are very lucky to have a very shrewd chairman, a good manager and good people at the club, so Gareth is not wanting to leave because there is anything wrong with the club," Keane told the BBC. "I know Gareth gets on very well with the players and the manager at Spurs, but it is the lure of Real Madrid.

"He is a young lad, what can you do. I had an opportunity like this when I was a young lad to go to Inter Milan and I took my chance. I'm sure Gareth will take his chance and do well if he goes to Spain."

Real Madrid pre-empted the official announcement of Bale's arrival at the club when they started selling shirts with his name and his designated No.11 on their official website on Thursday evening. However, Bale is expected to fly to Madrid for a medical imminently, with Spurs set to pocket a fee in excess of €100 million from the sale.
