Alcaraz, Robles reunited with Martinez

Antolin Alcaraz has signed for Everton after agreeing a two-year deal with the club, while goalkeeper Joel Robles - who also played for Wigan last season - has moved to Goodison Park.

Antolin Alcaraz joins Arouna Kone as a former Wigan player at Everton.

Alcaraz, 30, was a free agent after his contract at Wigan expired at the end of June and after spending three years with the Latics he has opted to link up again with Roberto Martinez, who left the DW Stadium to take charge at Everton on June 5.

The Paraguay centre-back arrived at the DW Stadium from Belgian side Club Brugge shortly after representing his country at the 2010 World Cup.

He becomes the second player to be signed by Everton since Martinez replaced David Moyes as manager, following the arrival of Arouna Kone on a three-year deal on Monday.

Alcaraz told Everton’s official website: “My first impressions here are: What a great club. I’m really excited about the new challenge in my career.”

Everton were keen to get a deal for Alcaraz done before they flew out to Austria for the start of their pre-season programme. They face Austria Vienna in a friendly on Sunday, and Alcaraz will be part of the squad for that game.

The Toffees' then welcomed a third former Wigan player later on Tuesday, with Robles arriving on a permanent deal from Atletico Madrid for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old keeper spent the second half of last season playing for Martinez on loan at Wigan, featuring in the FA Cup final in May as the Latics won the trophy for the first time in their history, beating Manchester City 1-0 at Wembley.

Everton have been looking for a goalkeeper to challenge Tim Howard for a first-team spot since back-up Jan Mucha was released at the end of last season, with Robles penning a five-year contract.
