Anzhi target Chelsea striker Ba

Anzhi Makhachkala are in the running to sign Chelsea’s Demba Ba according to The Times , with the forward reportedly surplus to requirements under new boss Jose Mourinho.

Demba Ba in action for Chelsea against Man United
Demba Ba scored twice in the Premier League for Chelsea last season after his January move from Newcastle.

Ba, 28, only signed for the Blues in January but with Mourinho apparently keen to shake things up in the striking department, the Senegal international’s days at Stamford Bridge appear to be numbered.

Romelu Lukaku has returned following a successful loan spell at West Brom and Andre Schurrle arrived from Bayer Leverkusen, with Ba likely to be offloaded as Chelsea look to add a more high-profile forward to their ranks in his stead.

The Times reports that Anzhi are “holding talks” with the former Newcastle and West Ham striker, who it claims has already turned down the prospect of returning to the Hammers or signing for West Brom.

Europa League winners Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move for Napoli’s Edinson Cavani, while Wayne Rooney has also been mooted as a potential transfer target.
