Duncan pleased with Sunderland link

Inter Milan midfielder Alfred Duncan says he is "flattered" by the interest he has received from Sunderland.

Duncan, 20, was speaking after reports earlier this week suggested Sunderland had seen a second bid for the player, believed to be in the region of €8million, rejected by the Nerazurri.

Rated highly by those at Inter, Duncan will be no stranger to Sunderland’s new chief scout Valentino Angeloni, who recently left the San Siro to join the Wearsiders.

“I am flattered by the interest of Sunderland,” Duncan told Sky Sports. “I know the scout of Sunderland has been watching me. To be honest though, nothing has been done and Inter will have a big say if I leave or not.”

Viewed as a potential star of the future, it is understood that it would take a substantial bid for Inter to consider relinquishing the player, who spent last season on loan in Serie B with Livorno.

Currently on international duty with Ghana Under-20s at the World Cup in Turkey, Duncan has already drawn comparisons to compatriot Michael Essien for his style of play.

“Fans compare me with Michael Essien and if I can have half of his career I will be very happy,” he said “He is the best midfielder ever in Ghana. He played box-to-box, could break play up and could dictate play at the same time.”
