Clarke: Dawson's future is at West Brom

Steve Clarke insists West Bromwich Albion will not be tempted to sell Craig Dawson in the summer.

West Brom must overcome Liverpool, Everton and Arsenal for a Europa League place
Craig Dawson has yet to make his Premier League bow for West Brom

Dawson, 22, is being watched by a large number of Championship clubs and Albion turned down offers for him during the January transfer window.

The centre-back is yet to make a Premier League appearance for West Brom since his move from Rochdale almost three years ago and is currently on loan at Bolton Wanderers.

But Clarke has no doubt the England Under-21 defender has a huge future ahead of him at the Hawthorns.

Dawson is on loan at the Reebok Stadium until April 27 and Clarke sees it as the latest step in his development, leading to him hopefully challenging Jonas Olsson and Gareth McAuley for a first-team place next season.

"We know what we’ve got in Craig. We’ve got a good, young, English prospect for the future," Clarke said. "His future is here. That’s something I said when he went out on loan and I will repeat it again. His future is here.

"We will keep an eye on him and we’re pleased he chose Bolton because it’s a good club and he can learn there. We sent Craig out to get games. He needs games."

Clarke, assistant head coach Kevin Keen and sporting and technical director Dan Ashworth have all been to watch Dawson in action for Bolton and will continue to monitor him for the rest of the loan period.

"I will go and watch him again. It was important he went somewhere where they try to play the right way," Clarke said. "Bolton play a similar system to ourselves and they try to get it down and play from the back and that was important for Craig."
