Northampton will be looking to kick on from a strong finish to last season when starting the new League Two campaign by entertaining Mansfield at Sixfields Stadium.

The Cobblers closed with four wins from six games to end up two places and three points above the drop zone and manager Chris Wilder has been active in the transfer market this summer.

John-Joe O'Toole scored 13 goals from midfield for Bristol Rovers last season and is one of several exciting signings.

Emile Sinclair arrives from Crawley, former Aberdeen defender Zander Diamond will bring experience to the back four, while Evan Horwood, Daniel Alfei, Lawson D'Ath, Alex Nicholls, Kaid Mohamed and Tottenham keeper Jordan Archer give Wilder added strength in depth, while Lewis Hornby is still out injured.

Mansfield manager Paul Cox should have a fully-fit squad available.

That means a whole host of players could make their Football League debuts for the Stags, including Liam Hearn, Sascha Studer, Fergus Bell and Alex Fisher.

Fellow summer signings Luke Jones, Amari'i Bell, Simon Heslop and Rob Taylor will also hope to be named in Cox's starting line-up for Saturday's curtain-raiser.

"We know how tough it will be on Saturday. I thought Northampton were a tough proposition last season," said Cox ahead of the trip. "They have a lot of resources at the club and have brought in some very good players. We are going to have to cope and show resolve and mental toughness to come away with anything."
