Sunderland begin Championship season at home to derby

Sunderland kick off the new Championship season with a home game against Derby.

Sunderland's quest to return to the Premier League at the first attempt will begin a day earlier than their Championship rivals.

Relegated from the Premier League, up for sale, without a manager and in possession of a thinning squad, will kick-off the new English Football League season on Friday, Aug. 4 at home to Gary Rowett's Derby.

North-east neighbours Middlesbrough, also relegated but quickly looking forward under new boss Garry Monk, head to Wolves, also under new management in Nuno Espirito...

Crewe interested in signing ex-Man United defender Wes Brown

Wes Brown left Manchester United in 2011.

Crewe Alexandra are considering a move to try to sign former Manchester United and England defender Wes Brown.

Brown, 37, is a free agent after leaving Blackburn following their relegation to League One, although Crewe boss David Artell says he other priorities in the transfer market.

"It's not something that's pressing, immediate or close," Artell told BBC Radio Stoke. "It's something we may visit depending what happens in the next few weeks.

"Should he be on our list? Give me a good reason why...

David Flitcroft managed Bury last season before being sacked in November.

David Flitcroft has been unveiled as the new manager of Swindon.

The 43-year-old former Bury boss is tasked with leading the Robins back to League One following this season's relegation.

Town, who were reported to be interested in former England international Teddy Sheringham, have been managerless since parting company with Luke Williams early last month.

School holiday allows Ethan Ampadu, 16, to join Wales training

Chris Coleman challenges his Wales side to prove they can perform without star man Gareth Bale in the squad.

Exeter City youngster Ethan Ampadu was only allowed to join up with the Wales national team for a training camp this month because it coincided with a school break.

Wales under-19 international Ampadu, 16, trained with the senior team ahead of Euro 2016 and has again been invited to join up with Chris Coleman's squad in Portugal ahead of their 2018 World Cup qualifier against Serbia on June 11.
