Harry Redknapp drops retirement hint after sacking by Birmingham City

Harry Redknapp has left Birmingham after a run of seven defeats in 10 matches.

Harry Redknapp says there is "every chance'" Birmingham will be the last team he will manage following his sacking on Saturday.

Redknapp was axed after a 3-1 home loss to Preston -- a seventh defeat in 10 matches in all competitions this season.

Asked if he thought the St Andrew's job would be his last in management, Redknapp told BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek programme: "Every chance ... I doubt it'll happen now very much.''

However, he continued: "I'm a realist. I could go and help someone. I did it at Derby for a couple of months last year, helping Darren Wassall.''

Redknapp -- who has also managed Tottenham, Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Southampton, QPR and Jordan -- added: "I'm disappointed, but that's how it goes.

"I enjoyed my time and really enjoyed the job. It gave me a buzz every day. If I didn't enjoy it, I wouldn't have done it. The situation at my age is if I don't want to go to work, I won't go to work.

"Given time, they've got a squad going forward  -- probably as good as they've had in a long time, capable of challenging for the playoffs.

"But it's a shame I didn't get the chance to see it through. I only had a week with the new players -- six made their debuts last week against Norwich. We played well against Leeds in midweek and in the first half [on Saturday].

"In the second half we went to pieces a bit and Preston were very good, but it's difficult when you throw a lot of new players together as we did.''

Redknapp, who signed 14 players in the summer, was not the only managerial departure in the wake of Saturday's games, with Gary Caldwell sacked by Chesterfield and Michael Brown parting company with Port Vale.

"Whoever goes in will take over a good group -- but these things happen,'' he continued. "I feel more sorry for the other lads who lost their jobs in the lower divisions [on Saturday].

"I've been up the ladder and had a great time but they're trying to get there. I'm sad for them really. It's not easy for these younger guys and they lose their job.''
