Police: Arrests for range of offences at Ipswich-Norwich derby match

Police in Suffolk said they had arrested several people who "appeared to be set on causing trouble" at Sunday's Championship derby draw between Ipswich and Norwich.

Chief Superintendent Louisa Pepper said "a very small minority" were detained for a range of offences including suspected drugs possession and having a lit flares inside Ipswich's Portman Road ground during the match, which finished 1-1.

Suffolk police said people who were treated for the effects of smoke from the flares were well.

A 23-year-old Norwich man was arrested on suspicion of possession of class A drugs, while a 23-year-old man from Colchester and a 57-year-old man from Witham were arrested for breaching a notice to leave following antisocial behaviour.

A 29-year-old man from Felixstowe was held on suspicion of affray and a 23-year-old man from Norwich arrested on suspicion of assault.

A 34-year-old man from Ipswich was arrested for letting off a flare in the stands while a 45-year-old Norwich man was arrested for possession of a lit flare inside the ground.
