Garry Monk's Leeds beat Wednesday, Rafa Benitez's Newcastle win again

Leeds secured their first win under Garry Monk with a 2-0 victory in the Yorkshire derby at Sheffield Wednesday.

Marcus Antonsson headed the opener shortly after the hour mark and Chris Wood's late goal condemned the Owls to a second straight defeat.

The bragging rights also went to West Yorkshire as Huddersfield went two points clear at the top of the table with a 2-1 victory at home to neighbours Barnsley.

Jonathan Hogg grabbed an injury-time winner with his first goal for the Terriers after Chris Lowe's superb strike was cancelled out by Alfie Mawson's header.

Wolves won the midlands derby after coming from behind to claim a 3-1 victory at Birmingham.

Che Adams marked his home debut with a goal to give Blues the lead but Wolves stormed back after the break through Joe Mason and Danny Batth.

The home side had substitute Jack Storer sent off just seven minutes after coming on and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson added a late third for Walter Zenga's men.

Title favourites Newcastle secured a second straight win after Dwight Gayle followed up his midweek double with the only goal of the game at Bristol City.

The striker, who turned down a move to City from Crystal Palace last summer, volleyed home from Mohamed Diame's pass in the 19th minute.

Brighton remain unbeaten but had to settle for a 2-2 draw at Reading.

John Swift's free kick gave the Royals the lead in the second minute but Brighton needed only six minutes to equalise through Joey van den Berg's own goal.

Anthony Knockaert gave Albion the lead at the start of the second half but captain Paul McShane rescued a point for Reading, who had Van den Berg sent off in the last minute.

At the bottom end of the table, Preston and Blackburn are off the mark at the fourth time of asking.

Preston earned a surprise 2-0 win at QPR courtesy of Jermaine Beckford and a Nedum Onuoha own goal, while Blackburn had to settle for a 2-2 draw at home to Burton.

Rovers twice took the lead through Craig Conway and Sam Gallagher but Burton hit back through Jackson Irvine and then Tom Naylor in the 88th minute.

Danny Ward's first-half goal was enough for Rotherham to beat Brentford while Nottingham Forest enjoyed their second 4-3 win of the season at the expense of Wigan.

Will Grigg looked to have snatched a point for Wigan with his second of the game in the 85th minute but Thomas Lam put Forest in front for the fourth and final time in stoppage time.

Britt Assombalonga's opener for Forest had been cancelled out by Michael Jacobs and Oliver Burke's two well-taken goals were both matched by Grigg.

Kevin McDonald preserved Fulham's unbeaten start to the season with a late leveller in the 2-2 draw with Cardiff.

Cardiff had trailed to 16-year-old Ryan Sessegnon's opener before Joe Ralls and Anthony Pilkington looked to have won it for the Bluebirds.

In Saturday's late game, Derby goalkeeper Scott Carson denied his former club with a superb first-half save as Aston Villa had to settle for a point in a 0-0 draw in front of 31,000 fans.

The former Villa stopper tipped a Ross McCormack shot against the bar in a first half dominated by the visitors with Gary Gardner also striking the Derby woodwork.

Derby were much better after the break and Tom Ince wasted a good chance as Nigel Pearson's side played out a goalless draw for the second Championship home game running.
