Hull City win at Blackburn to go back to the top of the Championship

Hull returned to the top of the Championship as a comfortable 2-0 victory at Blackburn lifted them above Middlesbrough.

With Boro not in action until Monday, when they go to Leeds, the Tigers took advantage with two goals in the space of 10 second-half minutes from Abel Hernandez and Mohamed Diame.

Burnley could also have climbed above Boro but had to settle for a goalless draw at Reading after missing a second-half penalty.

The Clarets extended their undefeated league run to eight matches but it could have been even better if Andre Gray's spot-kick had not been spectacularly saved by home goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi.

Brighton secured a fourth successive win -- but they had to do it the hard way against battling Bolton.

The Seagulls were twice pegged back by equalisers from Emile Heskey and Jay Spearing after taking the lead through Jamie Murphy and Tomer before Beram Kayal's 58th-minute strike secured a 3-2 win.

Brentford had Yoann Barbet sent off early on at Hillsborough and Sheffield Wednesday made them pay as goals from Fernando Forestieri, Gary Hooper, Kieran Lee and Lucas Joao earned a 4-0 win, lifting the Owls up to fifth.

Lee Johnson enjoyed a dream start to his reign as Bristol City boss as Aden Flint's first-half double earned a 2-1 win at home to Ipswich.

The central defender produced two almost identical strikes from Luke Freeman corners to put City in control at the break and they held on despite Brett Pitman reducing the arrears just after the hour from Daryl Murphy's pass.

It was a very different story for Derby though as they started life under new head coach Darren Wassall with a 1-0 defeat at home to struggling MK Dons.

Wassall replaced Paul Clement on Monday, but Derby created few chances before the visitors scored with a Jake Forster-Caskey free-kick eight minutes from time to leave Derby without a league win in 2016.

Fulham got a first win under Slavisa Jokanovic with an emphatic 3-1 victory at west London rivals QPR.

The hosts were blitzed by three goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half, scored by Ross McCormack, Moussa Dembele and Tom Cairney. Substitute Tjarron Chery netted a stoppage-time consolation for Rangers.

Nottingham Forest's 13-match unbeaten league run was ended as Phillip Billing's screamer helped earn a 2-0 win for Huddersfield at the City Ground.

The Terriers had suffered four straight defeats in all competitions but a Matt Mills own goal gifted them a first-half lead before 19-year-old Danish midfielder Billing sealed the win with an unstoppable 30-yard drive for the first goal of his career.

Preston continued their good run with a 2-1 victory over Wolves at Molineux. Paul Gallagher's classy finish put the visitors in front and Adam Reach grabbed a decisive second early in the second half before substitute Joe Mason pulled one back for Wolves.

Neil Warnock's first game in charge of Rotherham ended goalless at home to Birmingham, despite late red cards for the Millers' Richard Wood and Joe Mattock, and Charlton also remain deep in relegation trouble after a 0-0 home stalemate with Cardiff, who had Sammy Ameobi sent off for a second booking deep in stoppage time.
