Leicester considering Steve Cotterill as Nigel Pearson's replacement - sources

Leicester City are considering a move for Bristol City boss Steve Cotterill as they search for a replacement for Nigel Pearson, sources have told ESPN FC.

Pearson was sacked on Tuesday despite masterminding the club's unlikely survival in the Premier League last season.

A run of seven wins and a draw from their final nine games helped Leicester avoid relegation when they looked doomed two months before the end of the campaign.

Leicester cited a "breakdown in relations" between Pearson and the board as the reason for the manager's departure with Pearson involved in a number of controversial incidents on and off the pitch last season.

Pearson was reportedly sacked in February by chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha only for his son and vice-chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha to reinstate him hours later.

Four months later and the club have now decided to look elsewhere for a new manager with former player Neil Lennon and ex-West Ham boss Sam Allardyce both among the coaches linked.

However, sources have told ESPN FC that Cotterill figures high on the wanted list after impressing at Ashton Gate.

Cotterill led Bristol City to the League One title with a club record 99 points last season and they also won the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at Wembley.

When Cotterill took over the club were staring relegation to League Two in the face, but just 16 months later he had transformed the club.

The 50-year-old has a wealth of experience having worked in all four divisions in England. Bristol City will be loath to lose Cotterill, but are bracing themselves for interest from Leicester for the former Stoke and Nottingham Forest manager.
