Championship: Norwich beaten by Wigan

Norwich City's bid for a seventh successive Championship win was thwarted by a determined Wigan side who came away with a surprise 1-0 win to boost their chances of avoiding the drop.

An early goal from South Korean midfielder Kim Bo-Kyung proved to be enough to settle a poor game in which an in-form home side failed to create a decent chance all night.

Wigan rarely threatened either but manager Malky Mackay will not be complaining after picking up a precious victory that takes to his battling side to within six points of the safety mark.

Leeds goalkeeper Marco Silvestri redeemed himself in the most dramatic of fashions as his side beat Ipswich 2-1 at Elland Road.

The Italian fumbled a Freddie Sears shot into his own goal to cancel out Alex Mowatt's fine opener, and then breathed a sigh of relief when Billy Sharp's stunning volley put Leeds back in front.

Silvestri's ultimate redemption came in the 84th minute, though, when he flung himself to his right to push a Daryl Murphy penalty onto the post and earn Leeds a win which keeps Ipswich out of the play-off places.

It was an incredible finish to a game that until Mowatt's 71st-minute free-kick had been one to instantly forget, with Silvestri and Sharp the match-winners, with the striker's contribution particularly poignant as he almost joined Ipswich in January when he thought his days with Leeds were numbered.

Andrew Shinnie's winner clinched a scrappy 1-0 victory for Birmingham over Blackpool as Lee Clark's return to St Andrew's ended in defeat.

Midfielder Shinnie's first-half header sealed the points with Clark returning to Birmingham for the first time since being sacked in October.

His old side hammered another nail in the Tangerines' coffin to leave them bottom, 15 points from safety, while the Blues rose to 13th.

Jordan Rhodes scored his 13th goal of the season and Adam Henley his first for the club as Blackburn registered their first win on the road in more than four months with a 2-1 victory at Sheffield Wednesday.

Rhodes pounced on a defensive mix-up to tap home the opener, before defender Henley put Blackburn two up in the 26th minute.

Although substitute Chris Maguire pulled a goal back for Wednesday, the visitors won away in the league for the first time since success at Nottingham Forest on October 25.
