Yeovil give Tate Royal-style welcome

Championship newcomers Yeovil Town took inspiration from the birth of the Royal baby on Wednesday when they announced the loan signing of Alan Tate on an easel outside their Huish Park ground.

In their own take on the tradition of announcing Royal births by placing a message on an easel at Buckingham Palace, the Glovers brought a touch of ceremony to their confirmation of Tate's arrival from Swansea.

"Yeovil Town Football Club was safely delivered of a loan defender at 1pm today," the message on the Huish Park easel said. "Alan Tate, from Swansea City, has signed until January 2 2014."

Earlier on Tuesday, the Football Association and Aston Villa congratulated the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their first child.

The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a baby son weighing 8lbs 6oz at St Mary's Hospital in London at 4.24pm on Monday.

Prince William is the president of the FA and Greg Dyke, the FA chairman, said: "On behalf of the Football Association, I would like to congratulate their Royal Highnesses on the birth of their son. It is truly wonderful news."

Meanwhile, Aston Villa, the team the prince supports, sent out a replica kit with the letters HRH and the number 1 on the back to commemorate the birth.
