Everton have signed teenage defender John Stones from Championship club Barnsley for an undisclosed fee.

John Stones has signed a five-and-a-half year deal

The Merseysiders announced the completion of the deal on Thursday evening after Stones, 18, passed a medical and agreed personal terms at Goodison Park.

The England Under-19 international right-back has put pen to paper on a five-and-a-half-year contract.

He progressed through the ranks at Oakwell, making his debut for the first team in December 2011.

"I am very excited to be joining Everton,” he told the club’s official website. “I've been very impressed with everything I have seen. Now the hard work begins."

Meanwhile, French striker Magaye Gueye is set to move back to his homeland on loan after failing to break into the Everton first team.

Gueye joined Everton from Strasbourg in summer 2010 but has found his opportunities limited and started only 14 matches.
