Manchester City 'massively disappointed' by Wigan loss - Stones

WIGAN, England -- John Stones said Manchester City's players were "massively disappointed" after their quadruple hopes were ended by League One Wigan Athletic.

City were knocked out of the FA Cup fifth round on Monday, ending their chances of an unprecedented clean sweep of four trophies.

Pep Guardiola's side suffered only their third defeat of the season and Stones told reporters: "[There is] just massive disappointment in the dressing room.

"We felt we should have got something out of the game, or at least taken the game back to the Etihad.

"That's been cut short now, the run in all four competitions, which we wanted to be in, right until the end, fighting for everything. The overall feeling is massively disappointed.

"I think we've had that mindset that we can win every game and that's probably why we have gone on such a good winning streak and not lost.

"I think it hurts even more that we've lost because we're not used to doing it. We have only lost twice before this this season."

City take on Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, and Stones said they must recover quickly if they are to secure their first trophy since Guardiola joined just over 18 months ago.

"We have got to look at the game and make sure we take everything from it, good and bad," he added.

"I think that is how we move forward and bounce back quickly because we've got the chance to win some silverware at the weekend.

"We know we can't doubt any team. We have got to respect every team we play. We did that [at Wigan] but that is football. You can't always write it or say what is going to happen.

"Strange things happen in football. It's happened and we need to move on quickly."

City striker Sergio Aguero was involved in an altercation with a fan as jubilant Wigan supporters invaded the pitch at the final whistle.

"It is never nice to see that happen if the opposition team were on the end of it, but we were on the end of it," Stones said. "Obviously the home fans were coming on the pitch. It is never nice to see.

"I don't want that to take away from the game. I thought we were dominant and should have come out with something else."
