Bristol City 'disappointed' with FIFA's West Ham fine for playing Sakho

Bristol City are "considering" their options following FIFA's decision to fine West Ham for playing Diafra Sakho in their FA Cup clash, despite having said he was unavailable for Senegal's African Nations Cup campaign due to injury.

World football's governing body announced on Wednesday that the Hammers had been fined 71,000 pounds and reprimanded for fielding Sakho in their 1-0 fourth-round victory on Jan. 25, in which the striker scored the winner. FIFA's rules say a player cannot appear for his club if he is supposed to be on international duty.

However, just a few hours later, the League One side released a statement expressing their disappointment at the punishment -- there had been suggestions prior to FIFA's announcement that West Ham would be kicked out of the FA Cup.

"Bristol City FC notes FIFA's decision with regards to the Disciplinary Committee's case against West Ham United and their player Diafra Sakho," City's official statement read.

"The club is disappointed with the penalty handed down by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee and is considering its options.

"The club will be making no further comment at this time."

West Ham face West Brom in the FA Cup fifth round at The Hawthorns on Feb. 14.
