Sergio Aguero is poised to make his Manchester City comeback in Wednesday’s FA Cup replay against Blackburn.
However, Yaya Toure and David Silva will sit out the game against the Championship side as City hope they will be fit to face Cardiff in Saturday’s Premier League game.
Argentina international Aguero has sat out City’s last eight games after limping off in December’s 6-3 win over Arsenal with a calf injury, but he has returned to training and is set to be involved against Rovers, who held City to a 1-1 draw at Ewood Park on Jan. 4.
Manager Manuel Pellegrini said: “Sergio is working normally with the whole squad and he is in the squad list.”
Aguero is City’s 19-goal joint top scorer but, although they have won seven and drawn one of the eight matches he has missed, Pellegrini is delighted he is available again.
He added: “It doesn’t matter that we are scoring a lot of goals. Sergio will always be an important player. We are very happy he is coming back.”
Midfielder Toure, who was substituted in City 2-0 win over Newcastle, has been granted a rest by Pellegrini in the hope he can recover from a niggling injury.
The Chilean explained: “Yaya has played for the last two weeks with a problem in his back so it is a risk to continue doing that. It is better for him to rest for two or three days. David Silva also has a problem. I hope they will be fit for Saturday.”
City will definitely be without France international Samir Nasri, who suffered a knee injury at St James’ Park when he was fouled by Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and had announced on Twitter that he would miss eight weeks.
Pellegrini said the midfielder is unlikely to return before the start of March, adding: “He was also playing in a very good moment so we hope he can come back as soon as possible but I think less than six or seven weeks will be difficult.”
The City manager also insisted there is no issue between him and his Newcastle counterpart Alan Pardew, who swore at him and abused him during Sunday’s match.
Pellegrini said: “He apologised at the match, I accepted it. When the match finishes, all the things stay there. It doesn’t matter in the future for me.”
