Returning Gerrard 'is raring to go'

Steven Gerrard is "raring to go" as he prepares to make his first Liverpool start in nearly a month against Oldham in the FA Cup on Sunday, assistant manager Colin Pascoe has said.

Steven Gerrard pulled up and was replaced.

The Liverpool captain made his comeback as a substitute in the 2-0 Premier League win over Hull on New Year's Day after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Gerrard suffered the injury during the 4-1 victory over West Ham at Anfield on Dec. 7, but is set to play this weekend as Brendan Rodgers' side look to avenge last season's shock FA Cup fourth-round exit at the hands of the League One Latics.

Pascoe said: "Steven is raring to go. He's training well. He had just under half-an-hour the other day against Hull, and he'll be available. He's looking good. We're pleased that Steven has come back."

Striker Daniel Sturridge, full-back Jon Flanagan and midfielder Joe Allen will not feature as they continue their recoveries from injury.

Sturridge has been out for a month with ankle trouble, Allen has a hip complaint and Flanagan a hamstring problem, but Pascoe hinted that all three could be fit for Liverpool's next Premier League game, at Stoke on Jan. 12.

He said: "Daniel's out there training and continuing his rehab. He's looking good, but we've just got to assess it day by day. We hope he will be back within a week or 10 days, and that Joe Allen will be available within 10 days or a fortnight. There's Jon Flanagan as well. They'll all be coming back."

Liverpool were beaten 3-2 by Oldham at Boundary Park in a thrilling tie last season, although this time they will not have to face giant striker Matt Smith, who scored twice against them but left to join Championship side Leeds in the summer.

The match will, though, pit Liverpool manager Rodgers against his son Anton, a midfielder who moved to Boundary Park from Brighton in the summer.

Pascoe said: "It'll be a bit of fun that Brendan and Anton are against each other -- but both will be focused on the game and ready to win. It'll be a good day."
