Zlatan Ibrahimovic set his sights on many more trophies with Manchester United after scoring the winning goal in their 2-1 victory over Leicester City in the Community Shield match at Wembley on Sunday.
The Sweden international striker was playing in his first competitive match for United and, similar to his friendly debut for against Galatasaray eight days earlier, he scored. The 34-year-old produced a header in the 82nd minute to ensure new manager Jose Mourinho already has a trophy to his name at his new club.
Ibrahimovic told BT Sport: "It feels good. It was the first game we played, for a trophy, and we won. This is my 31st trophy and I'm super happy. This is why I came and hopefully I can win many more than this.
"It was a difficult game. You can see they're a strong team. With our team, something big is going on but we are at the beginning and we have started with a high."
He also spoke about the size of the club, comparing it favourably when considering other giants he has played for during his career. Ibrahimovic said: "Perhaps it is the biggest club I've played at. The only one I can compare it to is Milan."
The other United goal was scored by Jesse Lingard, who produced a fine solo run to evade three players before coolly finishing to give his side a 1-0 lead. Although Jamie Vardy equalised in the 52nd minute, pouncing on Marouane Fellaini's error, it was Ibrahimovic who had the final say.
Lingard said that Mourinho has given the attacking players freedom to rotate. That was significant as there was rigidity in their play last season under former manager Louis van Gaal.
Lingard, who scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final at Wembley last season, said: "He's given us a license to mix positions. You can do what you want on the pitch. He's a great manager. He lets us play freely."
