Edgar Davids leaves Barnet

Conference side Barnet have announced that player-manager Edgar Davids has left the club by mutual consent.

Edgar Davids could be ready to hang up his boots.
Edgar Davids oversaw Barnet's relegation from the Football League last season.

Former Netherlands international Davids, 40, had joined Barnet in October 2012 but oversaw the club’s relegation from the Football League last season. He has now left the club after a run of four defeats in five games left the club in 10th.

A statement on Barnet’s official website after Saturday’s 2-1 loss to strugglers Chester read: “Barnet Football Club tonight announce that Edgar Davids has resigned by mutual agreement from his position as head coach.

“Everybody associated with the club would like to thank Edgar for his contribution during his time here and for his help in putting together the current team structure. The club would also like to wish Edgar the very best of luck in what we have no doubt will be the continuation of an illustrious career.

“More information will follow in due course.”

Former Ajax, Juventus and Barcelona midfielder Davids had last appeared for the club in a 2-1 defeat to Salisbury in late December when he was sent off for the third time this season. After that match, he had said he would hang up his boots as he felt he was being treated unfairly by referees.
