Lee Mansell kept his cool to score the winning penalty as Bristol Rovers sealed an immediate return to the Football League with a 5-3 shootout victory over Grimsby in the Conference playoff final.

FC United, the club formed by disenchanted Manchester United fans, have clinched their fourth promotion in 10 years.

Lower leagues get at least £1 billion share of Premier League TV money

Richard Scudamore has been promoted from Premier League chief executive to executive chairman.

Premier League clubs have pledged to share at least £1 billion of TV money outside of the top flight from next year.

The sum -- 20 per cent of their income from the astonishing £5.1 billion domestics rights package announced last month -- will go to grassroots football, solidarity payments to lower league clubs, participation and education and disadvantaged groups.

Manchester United hand two-week trial to Southport's Andrew Lewis

Manchester United manager Loius van Gaal spoke about Rooney's future as the England captain continues to be played in a central midfield position.

Manchester United have taken Southport forward Andrew Lewis on trial, sources have told ESPN FC.

Lewis, who was on the books at Tranmere Rovers until the age of 14, has impressed for the Conference club's reserve team this season.

The 19-year-old has scored 38 goals, and his record has alerted a host of sides higher up the football pyramid.

Everton, Burnley and Blackburn have all cast an eye over Lewis and were keen to take the 6ft 1in player on trial in order to have a closer look at him.
