Michael Keane makes England debut vs. Germany, Jamie Vardy starts

Gareth Southgate has handed Michael Keane his England debut in Wednesday's friendly against Germany, with Jamie Vardy leading the attack for the Three Lions.

Burnley centre-back Keane has been selected in a three-man defence by Southgate alongside Chris Smalling and Gary Cahill, who has been named captain. Kyle Walker and Ryan Bertrand have been selected as wing-backs.

Leicester striker Vardy, who has four goals in his last five games, starts up front for England ahead of Marcus Rashford and Jermain Defoe, who will be hoping to win his first cap since November 2013 from off the bench.

Hull's Jake Livermore wins his second cap and makes his first start, in a defensive-midfield role alongside Eric Dier, with Dele Alli and Adam Lallana playing further forward.

Joe Hart, currently on loan at Torino from Manchester City, is in goal for Southgate's first game since being appointed as permanent boss.

Lukas Podolski, meanwhile, captains Germany in his 130th and final appearance for the nation. Timo Werner is handed his debut by Germany coach Joachim Low.
