Wayne Rooney and Bertrand sit out England training ahead of Spain game

England trained without captain Wayne Rooney and left-back Ryan Bertrand on Monday ahead of the international friendly with Spain.

Both Manchester United striker Rooney and Southampton defender Bertrand are reported to have minor issues and will hope to be available for the game at Wembley on Tuesday.

The full squad had training on Sunday, though Harry Kane has already been released back to Tottenham Hotspur to continue working on his fitness after six weeks out with an ankle ligament injury.

Interim coach Gareth Southgate is expected to make changes to the side that beat Scotland 3-0 on Friday night in a crucial World Cup qualifier.

The game marks the end of Southgate's temporary stint in charge of the national side, though he remains firm favourite to win a permanent deal after taking seven points from a possible nine in Group F.

Tottenham midfielder Dylan Duncan, 17, has joined in training with only 19 outfield players at Southgate's disposal. England are being put through their paces at Spurs' Enfield base.
