England striker Harry Kane bemoans final ball as goal drought continues

England striker Harry Kane says he was happy with his performance in Sunday's 1-0 win in Slovakia but insisted the team's final ball could have been better as his goal drought extended to 11 matches.

Kane, 23, started as England's lone striker in Sam Allardyce's first game as manager, a 2018 World Cup qualifier in Trnava, settled by Adam Lallana's 95th-minute winner.

The striker has not scored in four games for club and country this season, and in 11 in total since Spurs' 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge on May. 2, but he was happy with how he played against Slovakia.

"When you play up front on your own you are not always going to have players around you and I think it is about having that battle and holding it up for the team, running in behind and I think we did that well today," Kane told reporters.

"It was a good battle and we created some good chances. I had some half-chances that on another day could have sneaked in but overall I was happy with the way things went."

Captain Wayne Rooney was listed at No. 10 on the teamsheet but spent most of the game as a deep-lying midfielder, leaving Kane, who recorded just five touches in the first half, isolated.

"We limited them to very few chances, we created some good chances but maybe the final ball, whether it was a cross or a through ball, could have been a little better," Kane added.

"It is a boost that we won and hopefully we can kick on now in the rest of the group games."

On Allardyce, the Spurs striker said: "We are all delighted for him. With a new manager coming in you want to get him a good victory to start off with. He has been great all week, we have had a really good camp, good training sessions and we are delighted to reward him with a win."
