Sam Allardyce appointment good for England - Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney believes Sam Allardyce is the perfect appointment as England manager.

Skipper Rooney, his country's all-time leading goalscorer, was part of a Three Lions side which was humiliated by Iceland at last month's European Championship and suggestions followed that he may retire from the international stage.

But the Manchester United forward, who turns 31 in October, is keen to continue and is relishing working with Allardyce, who left his role as manager of Sunderland to sign a two-year deal to replace Roy Hodgson on Friday.

Speaking on United's preseason tour of China, Rooney told various newspapers: "Yeah, I think it's a good appointment for England.

"He will probably bring a different way of playing to England and hopefully it's a good way and we can be successful under him.

"I only know him through teams he has managed. I have seen him a few times off the pitch, but it's like everyone, I know him through the teams in the Premier League.

"Am I going to carry on? Of course. It was asked of me after the Euros, but yes, I'll be there.''
