England delay Euro 2016 squad announcement to Monday

England have delayed their announcement of the Euro 2016 squad until Monday, the FA announced.

The list of 23 players who will travel to France this summer was initially set to be revealed at Wembley on Thursday, but manager Roy Hodgson wanted to judge players' fitness during this weekend's games.

An FA statement said: "Following a meeting at The FA with his coaching staff this afternoon, the Three Lions boss decided to switch his announcement from this Thursday in order to better assess players' fitness after the final games of the Premier League season."

The severity of Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck's knee injury has yet to be made public, while club-mate Jack Wilshere has only made two substitute appearances this term.

Everton defender Phil Jagielka been out with a hamstring injury in recent weeks and Liverpool's Jordan Henderson has just returned to outdoor training after a knee ligament injury sustained last month.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said on Tuesday that Henderson would be "100 percent fit" in time for the Euros.

Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will miss the tournament with a knee injury and Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has yet to return from a double leg break sustained in September.

The deadline for all teams to submit their squads to UEFA is May 31.

Information from Press Association was used in this report.
