Daniel Sturridge to make England return vs. Netherlands - Roy Hodgson

England boss Roy Hodgson has confirmed Daniel Sturridge is set to make his long-awaited international return when Netherlands visit Wembley on Tuesday.

Liverpool striker Sturridge has not featured for England since a 1-0 friendly victory over Norway in September 2014, after which Brendan Rodgers accused Hodgson of mismanaging the player's fitness.

Sturridge did not play in England's 3-2 win away to Germany on Saturday, but Hodgson has confirmed he will return to the side for the home game against Netherlands.

"We're pleased to welcome him back after his long layoff from England duty," Hodgson told a news conference on Monday.

The Daily Mirror has reported that Hodgson plans to make 10 changes to his team for the game against Danny Blind's side, with Danny Rose -- the only fit left-back in the squad -- the man to keep his place from the game in Berlin.

Hodgson refused to confirm his plans, though, saying: "There will be some changes. How wholesale those changes will be you'll have to wait and see."

After finishing third at the 2014 World Cup, Netherlands are going through a transitional spell and failed to qualify for Euro 2016.

Even so, Hodgson believes they will provide a stern test of England's credentials.

"After the Germany game, I wouldn't have wanted a game that didn't test out the team," he said.

"Our heads are concentrated on the task ahead. The feel-good factor is always short-lived for me and the players."

Liverpool midfielder James Milner will captain England on Tuesday and he told reporters at the news conference he was thrilled with the opportunity.

"To get the chance to lead out your country is a massive honour and something you'll never forget," he said.

England have switched focus towards fresh talent over recent years, with the retirements of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard after the 2014 World Cup paving the way for a new-look side.

Milner, now one of the squad's most experienced players, said it is important to keep focus despite the optimism generated by the new wave of talent.

"It's exciting to see the amount of young talent coming through, but we don't want to get carried away," he said.

"If we don't perform tomorrow night, everyone will forget about Saturday and that momentum will be lost."
