Injured James Milner withdraws from England friendlies vs. Spain, France

Liverpool midfielder James Milner has been ruled out of England's upcoming friendlies against Spain and France due to a hamstring problem, the Football Association has announced.

Milner, 29, was forced off after an hour into last Thursday's 1-0 Europa League win against Rubin Kazan in Russia after taking a knock to his leg.

As a result he was left out of Liverpool's 2-1 home defeat against Crystal Palace on Sunday -- the first time he has missed a Premier League match for the club he joined in the summer from Man City.

The FA has now confirmed that Milner will miss Friday's match in Alicante against European champions Spain as well as the Nov. 17 Wembley tie against Euro 2016 hosts France, with Roy Hodgson's squad reduced to 22.

Liverpool have already had issues with England this season after youngster Jordan Rossiter returned injured from under-19 duty having played three 90-minute games in six days.

It led to manager Jurgen Klopp complaining about the treatment, saying: "These young players are our future. If we handle them like horses we get horses."
