Mark Draper
Club: Southampton
Shirt Number: 16
Position: Midfielder
Date of Birth: November 11, 1970
Birthplace: Long Eaton
Height: 5' 10"

Profile:

Fine, passing midfielder who began his career with Notts County and swiftly attracted attention with the quality of his play.

A scramble to secure his services ended when Leicester City tabled a successful 1.25million bid in the summer of 1994, but even with the playmaker's added influence the Foxes were unable to escape the drop the following season.

When then Leicester manager Brian Little moved to Aston Villa he took Draper with him for 3.25million in the summer of 1995. Eventually fell out of favour and had to go out on loan to Rayo Vallecano to get first team football in January 2000.

A protracted transfer saga saw him eventually move to Southampton for 1,250,000 in the summer of 2000. He was signed by Glenn Hoddle - who gave Draper his full England bow.

Was an important first team player in his first season at the club, after making his debut in a 2-2 draw at Derby County. Netted his first goal in a 1-0 win at Middlesbrough.

Fell out of favour following the exit of Hoddle and subsequent appointments of Stuart Gray and latterly Gordon Strachan.

Played just three games in the 2001/02 season, making his Saints appearance tally just 30.
