England and Leicester City midfielder James Maddison will be available to feature at the Qatar World Cup despite picking up an injury on Saturday, the player has confirmed.

Maddison was forced off in Leicester's 2-0 Premier League win at West Ham United only a week ahead of the World Cup.

After opening the scoring eight minutes into the game, Maddison appeared to suffer a hamstring injury and was substituted after 24 minutes.

However, he tweeted after the game that the injury wasn't serious and he would be joining the rest of the England squad as planned.

"Another win & another goal. Perfect way to finish before the break," he wrote. "Injury isn't too bad! A small problem that was causing a bit of soreness. Can't wait to meet up with the lads Monday."

When asked about the player's fitness after the game, Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers said: "He's fine. It was just precautionary, a little soreness on the side of the knee.

"He hasn't trained a lot this week. He's OK."

The 25-year-old received a dramatic last-minute call-up to England's 26-man World Cup squad on Thursday.

Maddison's only previous England appearance came as a substitute against Montenegro in November 2019 and he had not been selected since despite a fine run of form at Leicester City.

However, after a calendar year in which Maddison has amassed 22 Premier League goal involvements -- only Harry Kane, Kevin De Bruyne and Son Heung-Min have more -- England boss Gareth Southgate opted to include him in his travelling party to Qatar.
