Thomson on target as Pars progress

Ryan Thomson scored the only goal of the game against Ayr to earn Dunfermline a Scottish Cup fifth-round tie against Rangers.

Pars forward Thomson had the best chance of a poor first half, bringing a decent save from David Hutton with a stinging drive.

He was not to be denied, though, and opened the scoring on the hour, heading in Alex Whittle's inviting cross for his first goal of the season.

The Pars had goalkeeper Ryan Scully to thank for their progression as he denied Michael Moffat in the closing stages.
