Paul Watson struck a late free-kick to give Montrose their first point of the season as they drew 1-1 with Berwick.
Darren Lavery went close with a header from a tight angle and Lee Currie stung Stuart McKenzie's palms with a rasping drive as the visitors started brightly.
Montrose found their feet and hit the post through Terry Masson, while Rangers goalkeeper Paul Grant had to be alert to keep out Watson's left-footed effort just before the break.
The visitors hit the front when Lavery found the net with a header from Currie's corner on 68 minutes. But Watson denied them all three points and back-to-back wins six minutes from time.
