Lyon had to come from behind to beat Nantes 3-1 at the Stade de Gerland and register a first Ligue 1 win in four attempts.
Despite falling behind to a Jordan Veretout goal, Les Gones hit back with goals from Bafetimbi Gomis, Clement Grenier and Jimmy Briand and closed to within three points of league-leaders Monaco, for a couple of hours at least.
Defeat for Nantes leaves them without a win on the road in three attempts but Les Canaris solid home record means they sit happily in mid-table on their return to the top flight.
Nantes thought they had made the perfect start after Anthony Lopes failed to hold Veretout's effort. Filip Djordjevic pounced but the Serbian's effort was ruled out for offside.
The visitors continued to cause problems for the Lyon defence early on and Papy Mison Djilobodji almost converted Veretout's delivery but was denied by a last ditch clearance from Maxime Gonalons.
Not to be outdone by their opponents, Remi Garde's men were next to have a goal chalked off for offside.
Alexandre Lacazette fired in a cross-cum-shot and Gomis turned the ball home at the far post, but the France international had moved too soon.
A goal did arrive at the 25-minute mark, though, and this time there were no doubts.
Issa Cissokho's delivery from the right missed Djordjevic at the near post, but an unmarked Veretout finished at the far post with a neat header to stun the home crowd.
Nantes failed to hold onto the lead, however, and Lyon hit back almost instantly through Gomis.
After linking up well with Briand, the 28-year-old striker held off a challenge from Oswaldo Vizcarrondo before firing across Remy Riou with his right foot to draw the hosts back level.
Les Gones almost took the lead for the first time in the game moments after the restart but Bakary Kone saw his header turned away by Riou when it had seemed destined for the top corner.
That was just a sign of things to come, though, as the hosts made the breakthrough 10 minutes into the second half.
Grenier took charge of a dangerous free-kick 20 yards and needed no invitation as he cleverly sent the ball beyond Riou for his second goal of the season.
Lyon all but wrapped up the points and saw off a stubborn Nantes side when they hit a third with little under 20 minutes remaining.
Goalscorer turned provider as Grenier's near-post corner was cleverly flicked beyond Riou by Briand for his first goal of the season in only his second start.
The hosts could have added to their lead late on when Gomis almost pounced after Riou spilled a Lacazette effort, but the damage was already done and Les Gones held out to get their season back on track.
