Minstermen too sharp for Daggers

PA Sport

York followed up their victory on New Year's Day with another three points following a 3-1 home win over Dagenham & Redbridge.

It was the visitors who had the better of the chances in the first half, with captain Abu Ogogo twice going close with headers.

However, despite Dagenham dominating the game, it was York who made the breakthrough in the 52nd minute through Ryan Bowman as the striker teamed up with Michael Coulson in the area before placing a low shot past Chris Lewington to find the back of the net.

York gave themselves an important two-goal cushion 13 minutes later courtesy of Wes Fletcher, who saw his cross loop over Lewington and find the bottom corner.

Fletcher then extended the lead in the 71st minute with his 10th goal of the season as he found the bottom corner after drifting inside Scott Doe.

With 10 minutes remaining, Dagenham pulled a goal back through Rhys Murphy as he capitalised on a Ben Davies mistake but it proved scant consolation.
