Chris Erskine and Steve Lawless grabbed first-half goals as 10-man Partick progressed to the second round of the Scottish Communities Cup with a 2-0 victory at Forfar.
Erskine put the First Division side ahead after 18 minutes at Station Road, latching on to Stuart Bannigan's pass to find the top right-hand corner from 12 yards.
Partick pushed for a second and Sean Welsh struck a post before striker Lawless found the bottom right-hand corner from Aaron Sinclair's pass to double the advantage in the 37th minute.
The home side were handed a lifeline on the stroke of half-time when Jags defender Hugh Murray was dismissed for bringing down Gavin Swankie in the box, but striker Swankie fired over from the resultant penalty.
Loons midfielder Keith Gibson rattled the Jags' crossbar with an 18-yard volley early in the second half while Welsh and Stephen O'Donnell struck the woodwork at the other end in a goalless second period.
