First Division Dumbarton edged out Albion 2-0 in the Scottish Communities League Cup first round.
Bryan Prunty struck late in the first half before his strike partner James Lister also got his name on the scoresheet with six minutes remaining.
Albion, Second Division rivals of Dumbarton last season before the Sons' promotion, almost went ahead just before the half-hour mark but Gordon Dick's curling effort hit the crossbar.
Chris McCluskey made a parrying save from an Alan Lithgow header but the Albion goalkeeper could do little to prevent Prunty nodding Steven McDougall's inswinging corner into the roof of the net from close-range in the 45th minute.
Albion struggled to respond and only a fine fingertip save from McCluskey stopped Prunty from making it 2-0 in the 77th minute.
However, Dumbarton soon had a two-goal cushion when substitute Mark Gilhaney set up Lister from the left for an assured finish from the edge of the box in the 84th minute.
