Brazil 3-2 Egypt: Brazil resist comeback

New Chelsea signing Oscar played a starring role as Brazil were forced to fend off a brave fightback from Egypt at the Millennium Stadium.

Oscar set up Rafael and Leandro Damiao for the first two Brazil goals, before Neymar made it 3-0 at half-time in front of a crowd of 26,812, greater than the attendance at yesterday's Team GB women's fixture against New Zealand.

The South Americans took their foot off the gas after the break and were punished as Mohamed Aboutrika and Mohamed Salah pulled goals back for Egypt, but it was not enough for the Africans in this Group C clash.

The Selecao went in front after 16 minutes when Oscar gave a glimpse of his talents with a lovely reverse pass that allowed Manchester United's Rafael to drill home left-footed.

Oscar was again heavily involved when Brazil doubled their lead 10 minutes later, the midfielder rounding the advancing Egyptian goalkeeper Ahmed Elshenawi before squaring for Leandro to fire home from close range.

Neymar made it three a few minutes later as he headed home after combining brilliantly with Hulk - the pair making light of a badly cut-up playing surface.

Egypt battled bravely in the second half and captain Aboutrika got a goal back in the 52nd minute as he turned home the loose ball after Emad Meteab had struck the post to ignite hopes of an unlikely comeback.

Substitute Salah should have narrowed the deficit further just a few minutes later after seizing on Marcelo's woeful header, but the striker dallied and his shot was blocked.

The Basle forward made amends with 15 minutes to go, though, as he calmly picked his spot to beat Neto, but Brazil eventually ran out winners.
