Estonia 0-2 Turkey

Turkey won 2-0 in Estonia to move into second place in World Cup qualifying Group D.

In a tight battle for the play-off spot behind runaway leaders Holland, goals in either half from Umut Bulut and Burak Yilmaz helped Turkey do their part.

With Holland beating the previously-second Hungary 8-1, second place became available and Turkey took it, with Romania now level on points with them in third after beating Andorra 4-0.

It will now go down to the last day to see who progresses, with Romania set to meet Estonia while Turkey have a tough-looking home clash with Holland to navigate.

If they do, though, and Romania do not go goal crazy, a play-off will be theirs.

After a tentative start Turkey made the breakthrough in the 22nd minute, Bulut nodding home a fine header from Caner Erkin's drifting cross.

Gokhan Tore went close to goal number two just before the break but Pareiko pulled off a fingertip save to keep his fierce drive out of the net.

News that Romania were ahead in Andorra trickled into the Turkish dressing room and Fatih Terim urged his players to make a strong start to the second half.

And they would listen to their coach, Yilmaz quickly sweeping up Tore's pass from the right to guide the ball home from the centre of the box.

Yilmaz's tail was up and although he fancied a brace he missed the mark with a header from Selcuk Inan's free-kick on the hour mark.

Turkey relaxed somewhat as time ticked away, allowing Estonia some rare joy in the final third.

Martin Vunk tested Demirel's reflexes from a close-range header before Aleksandr Dmitrijev tried his luck from distance, but Turkey had already done enough to take the three points.
