Chile will head into the Copa America quarter-finals as Group C winners after a stoppage-time own goal from Andre Carrillo saw them edge past Peru in Mendoza.

Substitute Carrillo bundled into his own net from a 92nd-minute corner to give Chile three points after both sides had been reduced to 10 men at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas.

Peru's Giancarlo Carmona and and Chile's Jean Beausejour were dismissed just after the hour mark.

Both teams were able to rest players with top-three spots in the pool - and places in the last eight - already assured. Chile made six changes to their starting line-up and Peru nine.

Claudio Borghi's side had the better of a disjointed first half but clear-cut chances were few and far between.

Esteban Paredes was inches away from converting Beausejour's cross, while Humberto Suazo's shot deflected off Peru defender Santiago Acasiete and bounced just wide.

Suazo had another chance from a Beausejour assist but mis-kicked, sending his volley harmlessly wide from the penalty spot when unmarked.

Peru went within a whisker of breaking the deadlock against the run of play just before the break, Michael Guevara unable to turn the ball home from a yard out.

Carmona and Beausejour were given their marching orders after 61 minutes for raising their hands to each other.

Peru created their best opportunity in the 74th minute when Josepmir Ballon's cut-back found William Chiroque, but he could only sidefoot wide.

Highly-rated Chile winger Alexis Sanchez, a 58th-minute replacement for Gonzalo Fierro, looked to have set up Suazo in stoppage time but Christian Ramos got a crucial touch to his cross to avert the danger.

However, from the resulting corner, Peru goalkeeper Salomon Libman came out and got nowhere near the ball, which hit the knee of the unfortunate Carrillo in front of the open goal to settle the game in Chile's favour.
