Bezus upbeat about Kiev prospects

Dynamo Kiev midfielder Roman Bezus insists optimism remains high in the camp despite heading into the return leg of their Europa League last-32 clash with Bordeaux as narrow outsiders.

Dynamo dominated throughout and missed a number of chances to take a first-leg lead as they were held to a 1-1 at the Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex last week.

Chief among Dynamo's regrets will be a missed Oleg Gusev penalty in the second half, which left Lukman Haruna's solitary strike as the only reward the hosts had to show for their considerable efforts.

While many saw the result as an opportunity squandered, Bezus insists the team have every reason for optimism heading into Thursday's return leg at Stade Chaban-Delmas.

``We played well, although we missed a lot of opportunities,'' Bezus said of Dynamo's first-leg display on girondins.com.

``There are many positives to take from the contest and I hope we will have more luck in Bordeaux.

``We played well in Kiev, so we are optimistic for the return. We have a chance.''

Haruna's goal was cancelled out within minutes by a wonderful Ludovic Obraniak strike as Bordeaux enjoyed a smash-and-grab result.

``They had one shot on target and they scored,'' Bezus added.

``Of course, the result is more advantageous for Bordeaux as they scored away from home.

``But if we use our opportunities in better way, we will eliminate the French club.''

Bordeaux hero Obraniak concedes his team were second best in last week's contest, and was highly impressed with the fitness and drive of Dynamo in spite of the fact they had not played competitively since December 4 due to the Ukrainian league's winter break.

``I noticed they were particularly fit and never stopped running,'' Obraniak said in quotes reported on uefa.com.

``For a team who had only been playing friendlies, they were technically and physically above us.

``I couldn't say the result was fair but we were rewarded for our courage.''

Looking ahead to Thursday's match, he added: ``The atmosphere will be different at home, it can spur us on. We will need to show much more going forward.

``We must remain confident. After all, the scoreline as it stands is a good one for us.``
