FC Augsburg v Werder Bremen: Preview

Werder Bremen midfielder Assani Lukimya wants to return to a winning team tomorrow after sitting out his side's last two games due to suspension.

The Congo Democratic Republic international was only able to watch his team-mates win in Freiburg and lose to Bayern Munich after picking up the first red card of his career, but now he plans to help Bremen put a run of results together with his return to action.

``If we want to carry on challenging for a place in Europe, we need to put together a winning streak,'' he said.

``We have to start that in Augsburg. I am no longer looking back; the red card is behind me. All that matters now is concentrating fully on the game in Augsburg.''

Lukimya said it was an ``unusual situation'' to be sidelined, and that it had been a difficult experience too.

``I am not prone to injuries and I am only rarely suspended,'' he added on Werder's website.

``It was not easy for me. For me, the worst thing is seeing the lads play and only being able to cheer them on and not help the team.

``The defeat to Bayern was really frustrating. I think we held our own well for 80 minutes and then we conceded two goals, which was really bitter.''

Bitter is the right adjective to describe Augsburg's season so far with just two points picked up in six matches so far.

Goalkeeper Simon Jentzsch, who has missed Augsburg's last four games through injury and is unlikely to return tomorrow night, says that a 2-0 defeat to Fortuna Dusseldorf on the opening day of the season set a bad tone to the campaign.

``That brought us into this dismal situation,'' he said in the Augsburger Allgemeine newspaper. ``Losing in Schalke or in Mainz is more understandable.

``But we have got to stand up to this situation. We are bottom and have nothing to lose.''

Augsburg coach Markus Weinzierl may lose Torsten Oehrl to a knee injury, but Tobias Werner has recovered from an ankle injury. The pair are the only Augsburg players to have scored this season.
