SC Freiburg v VfB Stuttgart: Preview

Freiburg coach Christian Streich is minimising his side's chances of victory against Baden-Wurttemberg rivals Stuttgart tomorrow, even though they are above their opponents on goal difference.

Freiburg's 4-1 defeat to Stuttgart last February sparked a run of 10 games unbeaten which led Streich's team away from relegation and one game short of a club record streak of 11 games without defeat.

But not only that game, or Stuttgart's 5-1 win at Rapid Bucharest on Thursday night, have convinced Streich that his side will have their work cut out at the Dreisamstadion tomorrow.

``I am certain that Stuttgart will be challenging for a place in the Champions League this season,'' he said.

``We are looking forward to this derby, as always, but we need to have a really good performance if we want to get a draw or maybe even win it - but only if everything comes together for us.

``We know that if we lower our game just a bit, then it's not going to be enough.

``Stuttgart are currently one of the best teams around away from home.''

Thursday's triumph in the Romanian capital confirmed that with Bruno Labbadia's side now making the short trip south west in confident mood.

``It's going to be an interesting game, and an enjoyable one, like in Bucharest,'' he said.

Only it's likely to be a lot tougher than it was in Romania.

``They are a very strong team in good condition,'' added Labbadia at a press conference. ``They have a lot of motivation and are enthusiastic.''

Labbadia has announced he will rotate his team slightly after Thursday's trip east with the condition of Serdar Tasci still under observation.
