SpVgg Greuther Fürth v VfB Stuttgart: Preview

Midfielder Bernd Nehrig is looking forward to meeting his former club Stuttgart tomorrow, but says he is focused on getting a much-needed win for his current club Greuther Furth.

Nehrig joined Stuttgart at the age of 12 and says he has a lot to thank the club for, even though he did not show any gratitude the last time he played against them.

He spent nine years with Stuttgart, but his goal for Furth knocked them out of the DFB-Pokal in 2009.

``It was nice because we won the game 1-0 and I scored the goal,'' he said.

``It was a bit of a shame on the one hand because it contributed to increasing the pressure on Markus Babbel, but overall it was great to score the decisive goal in such a game.

``There is still a bit of sadness when you score against your ex club because I learnt my trade there and always have fond memories of my time with them.

``I had a great time and learnt a lot, and certainly Stuttgart had a huge role in me being able to play against them now in the Bundesliga.''

Stuttgart is now history, though, and Nehrig is focused on keeping Furth in the Bundesliga and helping them to their first home win of the season.

The Bavarians are seven points adrift of safety with only one victory all season.

``It's an immensely important game for us,'' he said on Stuttgart's website.

``We only have a few points and we are under a lot of pressure to get the points, but it's not going to be easy because Stuttgart are a good team.''

Nehrig comes up against the man who signed him for Furth in 2007, Stuttgart coach Bruno Labbadia.

``He signed me and was my coach for a year,'' said Nehrig. ``It was a really fantastic and successful time.

``He is always 100% dedicated and really gets involved from the bench. As a young player, I learnt a lot from him.''
