Lorient v Sochaux: Preview

Coach Christian Gourcuff has refused to get carried away by Lorient's shock 3-0 victory over Ligue 1 high-flyers Marseille at the weekend.

Few had tipped Gourcuff's men to come away from the Stade Velodrome with anything, but goals from Jeremie Aliadiere, Benjamin Corgnet and Kevin Monnet-Paquet condemned the south-coast outfit to defeat.

That victory propelled Les Merlus into the top half of Ligue 1, although they are only eight points clear of the relegation places, and Gourcuff does not think Sunday's surprise result entitles them to take struggling Sochaux lightly when they meet at the Stade du Moustoir tomorrow.

``This is a team that have had a difficult start to the season but has started to regain confidence and are picking up points,'' he told the club's official website.

``They are one of 12 teams that are fighting to survive relegation.''

Aliadiere, who has been one of Lorient's key players with six goals and five assists so far this season, echoed his manager's sentiment as he attempts to fire his side to their third win in a row at the expense of a team who only lie above the relegation zone on goal difference.

``Given their position in the league, this is a team that will stay up. We therefore expect a tough game. They need points and will come in trying to defend well and be well organised,'' said the striker.

``This is obviously an important game for both teams.''

Sochaux have drawn their last two games to move out of the drop zone although a 1-1 home draw with Lille last time out came at a cost.

Loic Poujol will be unavailable after being sent off on Saturday, while Yaya Banana misses out with a calf injury.
