Valenciennes v Evian Thonon Gaillard: Preview

Valenciennes go into tomorrow's clash with Evian boosted by the news that coach Daniel Sanchez has signed a one-year contract extension with the club.

Sanchez, 59, joined the club last year and has committed himself to the Stade du Hainaut until June 2014 after holding talks with club president Jean-Raymond Legrand in recent weeks.

``There was the desire to reach an agreement and it was signed,'' Sanchez told the club website.

``The situation is clear now, we will continue together. It is a good thing, we work in good conditions with a very good relationship.''

The new deal is reward for a satisfactory first half of the season, which sees VA lying 10th in Ligue 1 as they approach their final match before the winter break, which may have come at a good time given their depleted ranks.

Foued Kadir is suspended tomorrow, while Gil is set to join Jean-Louis Leca, Remi Gomis, Gael Danic, Dusan Djuric, Abdou Camara and Mody Traore on a lengthy injury list.

Evian too have a host of players missing, with Cedric Barbosa suspended and Daniel Wass, Kevin Berigaud, Jonathan Mensah and Ali M'Madi injured.

And striker Yannick Sagbo is aware they will face a difficult task to repeat last year's 3-0 win in the same fixture.

``From one year to another, the matches are not the same,'' he told etgfc.com.

``Valenciennes are going well this season and will want to show what they can do, especially at home, to finish the year.

``They are strong at home, despite their defeat to Paris St Germain last time out. They have good players and are quick going forward and, at home, they will really want to win.

``Despite what certain people are saying, it is not particularly a good time to play them. They need points because, despite their good start to the season, they are still one of our rivals for survival.''

VA's 26-point tally leaves them nine clear of their 16th-placed opponents, who in turn are three clear of the relegation zone.
